Tasting notes and food pairings - 5 Filari IGT Toscana Pugnitello

Intense ruby red color.
Complex and rich nose, aromas of black cherry, plum, underwood, wet ground, graphite.
The sip is fresh, sapid, supported by a refined tannin which conveys elegance to the wine. Lingering aftertaste, it ends with a fruity note that recalls the aroma and that encourages another sip.

To serve at a temperature of 13°-14° C, it is perfect with handmade pasta with duck sauce, or risotto with beef balls.

Vintages

The 2022 vintage was characterized by hot and dry weather, especially in summer.

The first part of the season, spring, proceeded normally, with no frost and regular budbreak. The summer, however, was very hot and with little rainfall, especially in June and July, causing some water stress in some vineyards.

However, thanks to the rains that arrived around mid-August (on the 15th and 18th) and the strong nighttime temperature variations in September, the grapes recovered, favoring optimal phenolic ripening.

The harvest began slightly early, around early September, and the grapes were brought to the cellar in healthy condition and with good balance.

In this vintage we produced: Chianti Classico DOCG

Characterized by a fairly rainy winter, beneficial for water reserves.

April saw some drops in temperature, resulting in moderate growth at the start of the season.

In May, however, with the arrival of the heat, the vines responded with good bud development, flowering was also good, and the limited rainfall allowed for easy defense against plant diseases. However, especially in August, maximum temperatures rose significantly, causing signs of stress in some vineyards. However, two significant rainfall events, the first on August 28th and the second on September 23rd, both exceeding 20 mm, ensured that the ripening process was completed without dehydration or critical issues.

In this vintage we produced: Chianti Classico DOCG, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Torriano DOCG

The vintage recorded a fairly mild winter which favoured a slightly earlier budding and shoot growth. The second part of spring was quite rainy and cool.
The summer was generally hot, fortunately without excessive heat peaks. Furthermore, some rain, such as that of August 4th (28mm), allowed a perfect growth of the bunch.

In September, precisely on the 24th and 25th of the month, more rainfall occurred. Fortunately, it did not compromise the harvest with the development of moulds. On the contrary, the rain guaranteed the completion of ripening especially on the later ripening plots.

In this vintage we produced: Chianti Classico DOCG, Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Torriano DOCG, Campo all’Albero IGT, 5 Filari IGT.
